I was amazed by the news that Shout Factory has decided to officially release Super Sentai content, here in America for the first time!
I was even more happy to run into their pre-order page, for Super Sentai Zyuranger, on Amazon.com. Its listed at $54.99, but selling at 38.49. (As of writing this). I'm quite happy with both those prices - seeing as this is a collection of 50 episodes. If shoutfactory wants to continue bringing over Super Sentai (and that package design and text sure looks like they do), staying at that reasonable price, something like Dairanger could be brought over as well.
Anyway -- here is the link to their pre-order page. It releases February 17th, 2015. This is an incredible deal, and a once-in-a-life-time chance to actually show Toei that Americans are interested in buying Super Sentai. If you've watched the series online - and always wished there was a legitimate way to support the series (besides Power Rangers) - this is it. Give Shoutfactory a reason to bring over more classic Sentai series. Heck, maybe even more modern series like Gekiranger, Shinkenger, or even Gokaiger will be considered, if it sells well enough.
As for Zyuranger -- this will be a great series for American to get to see!
Witness the real struggle between estranged brothers, Geki and Burai - with Burai giving up his vengeful path of evil, joining the team -- but tragically being cut down and dying during the series.
See the original Rita Repulsa, the Evil Witch Bandora, who literally leaps from Grims Fairy Tales, more than willing to kill children, or just plain make them cry.
Witness incredible Godzilla style fights, between fearsome monsters - no longer cut up, or laced with cheezy one-liners.
Enjoy the crazy things only Japan could have inspired - like the All Food Consuming Pig, stop traffic light Turtle, and more! (The rat-tailed island of dinosaur worshipers is really going to confuse people too!)
Also - see Boi as, well, as a Boy -- no longer gender confused, or trying to fill a quota of two girls on the team.
I hope lots of people pre-order the series. Let Shoutfactory and Toei know you're interested in seeing more, also!
I wanted to apologize for not posting anything lately. I haven't even gotten a profile up of ToQger's 6th Ranger. I don't know if I will, for a while. Several factors come into it -- one being, the website that use to post Super Sentai Images each week went away. Other factors...
If you read my other blog, I've recently been very interested in talking about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and also Usagi Yojimbo.
As for Super Sentai. I feel like ToQger just killed all the momentum I had for the franchise. Its not that its a bad show - but it just doesn't feel like its in my wheelhouse anymore. I hope the next Super Sentai has a more serious and action packed tone, ala Shinkenger, Gokaiger, Gekiranger, ect... Has anyone else been disappointed with ToQger? I tried to be optimistic at first - but it just didn't draw me in, like Super Sentai series usually do. I wonder how the series was received in Japan? (If anyone knows the answer, please leave a message in the comments below!)
That disinterest seemed to permeate over to Kamen Rider Gaim. Yet, finally, I feel like I'm ready to dig into the series (seeing as its nearing completion).
Always fun - for when the series is ending - is the Complete Music Collection that is released. Click here for it!
Oh - and there is the minor little thing of Zyuranger being licensed in America, brought over by Shoutfactory. I really stand stunned and amazed by this news! I never thought it would happen! Yet, with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers getting a reboot movie - I suppose Shoutfactory saw an opportunity to bring over the original series. I've been following their Mighty Morphin Power Ranger DVD releases -- never in my wildest dreams did I think Zyuranger itself would be brought over to America. This is beyond stunning!
I'd advise anyone, who wants to see Super Sentai in a legitimate form, accessible in America - to please buy this series when its released! Maybe Shoutfactory will move onto other Super Sentai series, if they see there is serious interest in bringing over the original source material.
Speaking of Power Rangers -- I've been watching the current series, and been quite disappointed with it. While Power Rangers Samurai tried to bring over the original plots of episodes, Super Megaforce has been a smash-together of Goseiger and Gokaiger, resulting in a really weird show. They don't even acknowledge that they look like pirates! Oh well.... I hope the series is doing well, regardless. I still look forward to the return of Tommy, and the Legendary War. (Though it took them nearly all year, to even get more than 7 episodes on the air! Super Mega Annoying!) Its still interesting to see how they utilize the Japanese footage, though. DinoCharge comes next -- this time with the first black Pink Ranger. I'm concerned, though, about the blue Ranger - because early casting seemed to indicate he would be some kind of cave man. That just seems weird. Oh well.
So - leave comments if you'd like. What are you looking forward to, in the world of Tokusatsu? Did ToQger disappoint you as well? What are you hoping for, now that a legitimate Super Sentai series is being licensed over in America?
I wanted to share this -- the completion of my long-sought S.H. Figuarts collection of Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger figures!
Boi arrived in the mail today, ordered from CSToys. I don't know if they will be getting more in stock, but here is where I bought it. I had to pay for it before it came out -- but it was one of the few places I could find that was selling the male-version of the Yellow Ranger. (After several emails, asking about it, BigBadToyStore failed to make the Japanese version available; which I'm still pretty annoyed about.) Other places, I'd suggest if you want to get the male version, is the always handy ebay. Yet, just looking at the listings now, under "Tiger Ranger Figuarts" - I'm seeing $60 plus for this figure! Who knew the female American Yellow Ranger (a variant) would be more easily accessible and better priced ($40, on Amazon.com), than the original version of the character. Oh well.
Strangely, though, now I sort of want the female version too -- just so I can put the American Power Ranger group together too! Maybe I'll ask for it for Christmas!
Anyway -- most people won't care wether the Yellow Ranger is a boy or a girl -- the fact the whole group is available, and assessable, to fans and collectors is a great thing! The figures are awesome, detailed, and highly posable -- probably the best figure representation we could have ever asked for with these characters.
If you haven't picked up any yet, but still want to, I'd suggest buying them soon. With the exception of Boi, Bluefin has been great about bringing the figures over to America, for usually $40 a figure -- available through Amazon, or Barnsandnoble. Some figures, though, might begin to sell for more, as stocks deplete. Amazon already is listing the Green Ranger for around $80. (Though I know he can be found, in certain select Barnsandnoble stores/plus, he's still going for around $40 to $50 on ebay)
This is a blog about Super Sentai. I am trying to show some of the Sentai images I've collected for myself over the years, and have a place where other people can see them all in one place.
The internet just doesn't have many pages that have good quality sentai images, and those that do are scattered and hard to find. So pleae forgive me if I have posted somebody else's image here. If your the originator of one of these images, then please put a post and I'll try and take it down.
I'll also be posting information about Super Sentai and Ranger Profiles - with info on diffrent Rangers, Villains, Allies, and their giant robots (Gattai Focus)
A collection of these bios and images can be found here:
